I
am a member of possibly the greatest jazz Big Band in the UK (lol)
- OK, I exaggerate slightly! I play baritone sax in the band but
originally played 2nd Tenor and then 2nd Alto.
We are based in
Birmingham and play classic Big Band tunes, jazz standards, and
even rock and pop numbers - so there is something for all tastes
and ages. We were originally known as the Blue Max Big Band but
changed our name when Jo James took over as Musical Director. We
rehearse every Friday night at West House
School.
Our last gig on 7th May we played two really good sets to a great
and enthusiastic audience at Bournbrook and Selly Oak Social Club.
Other recent gigs include Bearwood Corks
Club, Himley Hall,
Birmingham Botanical Gardens, Mary Stevens Park in Stourbridge, and
Jephson Gardens in Leamington. We also opened the new Amphitheatre
in Cotteridge Park and wowed them at Herefordshire Art Week. For
further information, details of all our forthcoming gigs, and how
to book us please check out our website.
There
was an article on the 6 medics in the band in BMA News
