2018 starts with a big defeat away to Wolves

My premonition comes true and we were well beaten 3-0 by Championship leaders Wolves. In the first half they hit the post early on but we played reasonably well, passing the ball out from the back and across the midfield but no real penetration up front. They always looked threatening in attack, particularly down their right flank, and Bentley made one really great save. We manage to go in 0-0 at the break. They started the second half very well and we were pretty bad. It was not surprising they got their first from an excellent free kick in the 57th minute. Two minutes later from another good move down the right (we did not learn from the first half) they scored their second with a good shot. They added the third with ten minutes to go, with a Wolves player first to react to a ball that was not cleared after the move had started down their .... right flank! In the second half we failed to bring the ball out from the back, possibly because they were pressing higher up the pitch, so Bentley was kicking it upfield (usually to one of their players) more often than he normally does.

No Bees player covered themselves in glory. The defenders started reasonably well but were exposed in the second half. Ryan Woods did not have a good second half, either being caught in possession or giving the ball away, and when that happens he ends up frustrated and fouls the player. Canos played well on the right and so did Jozefzoon who replaced him in the second half. Watkins (who I has previously rated) had a very poor game as did Yennaris. So was it worth £25 and me freezing in the Upper Tier of the Stan Cullis Stand? Probably not!
