We ‘beat’ Liverpool 3-3 at home!
Well it seemed like a victory. What an amazing game. Early on they nearly take the lead when Salah rolled the ball past Raya but it was Ajer rushing back to make a goal line clearance (he probably would not have got there if he hadn’t been playing Salah onside in the first place). Then in the 11th minute the almost identical situation happens down the other end when Matip makes a goal line clearance from Mbuemo’s flick over Allisson. We go in front in the 27th minute following a well rehearsed free-kick that releases Canos who crosses, Toney flicks on and Pinnock is there at the back post to slide in and score. Four minutes later they are level with a very good header by Jota but our defence probably should have done better. Then Raya makes an amazing save from Jota after the ball comes back off the post. We go in 1-1 at the break. In the second half, Liverpool are the dominant team and take the lead through Salah in the 54th minute although it was originally flagged offside but VAR shows that Canos was playing him onside. Despite Liverpool pressure we don’t give up and equalise in the 63rd minute with a header from Janelt after Jansson had hit the bar with a close range effort. Liverpool restart their lead in the 67th minute with a great strike from Jones although takes a slight deflection off Ajer. Would Raya have saved it without the deflection I don’t know as Jones hit it so well from outside the penalty area? Despite Liverpool pushing for a fourth goal we still don’t give up and another far post cross (our game plan?) sees the ball fall to Wissa a few yards from goal and he cooly dinks it over Alisson to make it 3-3. We even had a goal from Toney late on disallowed for an obvious offside. The game ends 3-3 and probably a fair result (although we really won!).
