Pep Guardiola speaking to Match of the day ""The best team won, we struggled from the beginning and we couldn't deal with their long balls. Usually you press the balls to win it but this was different. They defended so deep and so well. We didn't have the dynamic today because we were dictated by long balls that we were losing. The game was so difficult, it was so tight. They did really well in the plan they had and were better."

We took the game to City in the first few minutes and then had a couple of chances. Although for nearly all the match they penned us back in our penalty area, whenever we broke we looked dangerous. Toney could have scored with a couple of good shots but did with a header from Mee flick on in the 16th minute. We hang on until almost half time when Foden equalises with a great shot. In the second half they again do all the pressing but we still had some chances with their keeper (their best player) making yet another save from Toney. Then in the 8th minute of stoppage time (out of a total of 10) a great break sees Dasilva cross for Toney to tap in. Then about a minute later another break sees a Toney shot cleared off the line. Goal machine Haaland didn’t get a look in all game. Despite City having 75% possession we had more shots on target (8 vs. 6). This certainly makes up for us losing to Gillingham in the Carabao Cup.
