Beaten 3-1 away to Spurs

With eight players out injured (Wisaa for 2 months and now Norgaard) it was unlikely we would even get a point, and we didn't. Ye the same thing happened as last Saturday as we again went ahead in the first minute. The ball was played to Lewis-Potter on the left, who dropped a shoulder to beat their defender and floated a cross towards the front post. Mbeumo peeled away from the crowd and thumped a great volley beyond their helpless keeper. This was after only 22 seconds!

Undeterred, Spurs immediately went in search of an equaliser and had a several good efforts saved or blocked. Then in the 8th minute, after a mistake by Pinnock, they got it. Flekken initially parried the shot (but should have done better) and it was tucked home on the rebound. Then Spurs had a few more chances. On 26 minutes, Son rounded Flekken but was crowded out by the Bees’ recovering defenders, and when Spurs did shoot the strike was charged down by Yarmoliuk. Two minutes later Spurs got their second. Then we were almost gifted an equaliser. Their keeper was dispossessed by Carvalho inside his own six-yard box, who rolled the ball back to Mbeumo, but his shot was straight at the keeper. Just before the break Flekken had to make another good save to prevent a third goal.

Five minutes after the break, Flekken dropped low to his right to deny Kulusevski. Then came a moment of real controversy. Vicario advanced a long way off his line to claim a cross but, under pressure from Damsgaard, failed to gather. The Spurs keeper then handled the ball outside of his area, taking the ball away from Damsgaard and denying him the opportunity to strike at goal, but unbelievably the referee allowed play to continue. The sides then exchanged big chances; Mbeumo latched on to Ajer’s through ball and saw a venomous effort well saved by Vicario before Johnson pulled wide having been found by Son. Substitute Schade almost made an immediate impact. van den Berg looped in a cross from the byline, Schade superbly headed towards goal and the ball was clawed away by their keeper. As the Bees looked to push on in the final minutes, Spurs got their third in the 85th minute after a blistering counter-attack from the edge of their own box.
