Valiant Bees outgunned by the Gunners, but go down fighting
On paper this was a home win banker as Arsenal are top of the PL. I wasn't expecting miracles and a point would have been a fantastic result. Then I saw the team sheet with KA making five changes from the side that beat Burnley, with many of our best players e.g. Thiago, Damsgaard and Collins only named as subs. Even though we went behind in the 11th minute (Pinnock now just past his use by date) we did try to score and not always sit back, and only an amazing save in the fir

We leave it late to beat Burnley and get all three points at the Gtech
A definite must win match as Burnley are below us in the table, and we need to distance oursleves as much as possible from the relegation zone. In the first half there were chances for Collins, Thiago and Damsgaard with Kelleher having to pull off one good save. We went in at half time all square at 0-0. In the second half we started brightly and we had a few chances, but in the 77th minute a great through ball from Damsgaard played in Ouattara who was fouled in the area and

Yet another away defeat 2-1 from a winning position
Football can be so emotional. We went 0-1 up from Thiago in the 29th minute only for Brighton to equalise in the 71st minute, then take the lead in the 84th minute. Another away defeat from a 0-1 winning position was on the cards (Sunderland, Fulham) but we were awarded another penalty in the 90+6 minute. Up stepped Thiago and ... their keeper saved it and we ended up losing 2-1. I have never been a big fan of the way Thiago takes pens, starting from the first one he took for

We come from behind to beat The Magpies 3-1 at home
I was too exhausted after watching the game on Sky to write anything, so I would like to credit the Brentford FC website for the match report: Keith Andrews made one change to the Brentford starting XI with Aaron Hickey replacing Kristoffer Ajer at left-back, with the Scotland international making his first Bees start since the 1-0 defeat to Manchester City in west London at the start of October. The first real chance of the game came after 17 minutes, when Brentford were won

Beaten two-nil by Palace
I was hoping after two victories in the last week, we might pick up a point at Palace but that was not going to happen. We had a strong team out but on balance probably didn't deserve a point. They took the lead in the 30th minute with a goal from Mateta whose excellent header looped over Kelleher. They increased their lead in the 51st minute when we succumbed to a long throw and it flicked off Collins' head for an og. Later in the half Palace should have got a third when a m

Through to the quarter final of the Carabao Cup as we scuttle the Mariners 0-5
Keith Andrews made nine changes from Saturday’s 3-2 Premier League victory against Liverpool for the Carabao Cup tie away to League 2 Grimsby Town. Grimsby had previously knocked out Man U and Sheffield Wednesday. Goals from Jensen, Lewis-Potter and Nelson (who made his full debut) put the Bees in control at the interval, before Carvalho converted a second-half penalty and Collins came off the bench to head in a fifth and round off a clinical and highly professional display.

We put the PL champions firmly in their place
Despite Liverpool’s poor league form, they smashed Eintracht Frankfurt during the week in the CL. So, I was expecting a resurgent Liverpool team and was praying that we might be able to nick a point. We had an unchanged side from our win against the Hammers on Monday night, and the squad contained four ex-Liverpool players, Henderson, Kelleher, van den Berg in the line-up with Carvalho on the bench. It took The Bees less than five minutes to open the scoring. Kayode launched

We hammer the Hammers 0-2 at their place
The PL returns after the international break with the Bees having a must win game away to West Ham United. "Must win, but it's still October?" I hear you cry - yes we desperately need more points at this stage of the season. West Ham will be out to impress their new manager and in the first 10 minutes they looked like they were going to overrun us, then for the rest of the game we were the only team in it. How we didn't get a cricket score, no one knows. Over the whole game w

The Bees destroy Man U 3-1 at the Gtech
