3 points at home to the Saints

With Ivan Toney leaving for Saudi the previous evening (and us signing Southampton's left back) we have a new era of football to look forward to. With Hickey having an injury setback and out for the rest of the season, Henry still on the road to recovery, and now Ajer injured yet again ( his penetrating runs from the back against Liverpool were breathtaking) we were desperate to sign another full back and I hope Meghoma will be able to step up and settle in the PL. The game was won by our high pressing and the Saints' inability to play the ball out from the back that led to two of our goals and nearly some more. Early on, Damsgaard was put through by Mbeumo but his effort was saved. They had a couple of half chances that Flekken saved, and then Wissa had a few efforts. In the 43rd minute we took the lead. Damsgaard stole the ball from the Saints as they tried to work it out from the back. He fed Schade, whose low drive bounced back off the base of the post, and Mbeumo made no mistake on the rebound, striking it first time into the bottom corner of the net. Early in the second half, both sides has some chances but in the 65th minute Southampton were again caught playing out from the back. The ball was intercepted by Damsgaard, who immediately played a positive forward pass. Jensen calmly rolled the ball into the path of Mbeumo who found the far corner with a cultured first-time finish. Four minutes later we got our third, Jensen’s long throw was flicked on by Collins and Wissa bundled it in at the back post. We then had a few more chances before they got a consolation goal in the 90+5th minute. Next PL game is Saturday 14th September - away to Man City!
