A point at Anfield and we just miss out on Europe

Last game of the season away to Liverpool. If we win and the other results go our way then we are in Europe next season. As everyone knows, the last thing I want is European football as our squad does not have enough quality or depth and our league form would suffer and we would be odds-on to be relegated. Yet our performance against Palace and today against Liverpool, in particular the first 40 minutes of the first half, was so poor that if we play like that next season then relegation looms. We should have been one or two-nil down by the break. Salah hit the post from a free kick and Liverpool had numerous other chances with Kelleher saving well and Liverpool just shooting wide. The only time we started to play was at 40 minutes when Alisson made a point blank save from Schade. We were a little better in the second half until the 58th minute when Salah (who I originally thought was offside) raced down the right and crossed with the outside of his boot and Jones running in put it in the back of the net. I assumed Liverpool would extend their lead but 6 minutes later we equalised from a Schade header after Lewis-Potter’s delivery deflected off Jones. Again, the only time we started to play was in time added on. As we pushed forward to get the winner (and to get into Europe), Liverpool broke and Kelleher again saved us. We kept attacking and right at the end Ouattara had a great chance to gives us an undeserved three points but he headed over the bar. The one player to come out of the game with a lot of credit was Kayode. Overall, a great season finishing 9th in the PL, but had we won a least a couple of all those recent drawn games we probably would have finished 6th.
