Our miserable away form continues plus another injury to Thiago (hopefully only a "minor calf injury") rules him out of the game. Although Chelsea had more possession, more shots and more shots on target and probably deserved to win, we did try in the second half to get a draw. In the first half, they had two early efforts that Flekken parried away then another of his characteristic poor passes out from the back saw them nearly open the scoring but he managed to save the shot with his feet. Chelsea's pressure eventually told in the 43rd minute, as Madueke's inswinging cross was met by Cucurella, who charged into the box and planted a header into the back of the Bees net. Previously, they had similar crosses that we had cleared but this time our marking was not good enough. We went in 1-0 down at half time. In the second half, they had two great chances to extend their lead but down the other end Norgaards' great volley was tipped over by their keeper, and Carvalho hit the underside of the bar and the ball bounced out but Schade's overhead kick went over the bar. They got their second in the 80th minute with a strike from Jackson but again Pinnock was not close enough to him to prevent him from getting his shot off. Ten minutes later, Schade played through Mbeumo, who had evaded their offside trap, and he ran through and slotted the ball past their keeper to make it 2-1. Although we kept trying to get the equaliser there was no further scoring.
