We smash Luton and I think we will now be staying up!

Updated: Apr 21

Another must win match away to third from bottom Luton Town sees us romp home 1-5 even without Ivan Toney (although we gave a silly goal away at the end). We start brightly with a break on the left with Lewis-Potter shooting wide, then Flekken had to make a good save. We took the lead in the 24th minute with an excellent goal. A pass from Ajer inside our half to Mbeumo, his first-time pass forward with the outside of the boot to Wissa who (also first-time) unleashed an unstoppable shot from 20 yards that rocketed into the back of the net. A Luton defender almost turned Ajer’s low cross into his own net just after the half-hour mark, and Lewis-Potter, slid in by Wissa on the left, cut back on to his right and saw his well-struck effort hit a Luton defender on the head and go over the bar. Then another attack down our left in the 44th minute sees good interpassing between Reguilon and Lewis-Potter and eventually the ball comes to Mbeumo who tries to curl it in but it hits the bar. Then in the first minute of added on time in the first half after another nice exchange of passes between various players down the centre, it falls to Mbeumo to cross the ball and their defence fails to clear and Wissa gets his and our second.

In the second half we continued to apply the pressure and on 56 minutes, Ajer nodded Reguilon's curling free-kick just wide of the post. Three minutes later, their keeper parried Damsgaard’s low effort but managed to pounce on the loose ball just in time to prevent Lewis-Potter getting the rebound. We extended our lead just after the hour mark, when Pinnock headed in Reguilon's out-swinging corner. Three minutes later we were 0-4 up with Lewis-Potter at the far post stooping to head in another Mbeumo (also with the outside of his boot) cross. Schade made it five in the 86th minute from a pull back by Janelt. Janelt let himself down in the second minute of added-on time by playing a cross-field ball deep in our half to Norgaard that was easily intercepted for Luton to get their consolation goal. We are now 5 games unbeaten.
