Losing wouldn't have been a complete disaster but we needed a victory to give us confidence going into the next PL game at home to Southampton. On the day we finally signed Nunes from Gremio in Brazil, Thomas Frank made nine changes to the side that lost to Liverpool on Sunday, with Carvalho and van den Berg (both signed from Liverpool this month), in from the start, as was defender Ben Mee for the first time since February. Ivan Toney was again not picked in the squad. Overall, we were the better team and scored the only goal of the game in the 45th minute with Lewis-Potter turning home from close range, having been found in the box by Schade. Colchester had a great chance to equalise as they were awarded a (very soft) penalty in the 81st minute. He opted to shoot down the middle and Valdimarsson superbly saved with his trailing leg. We are now drawn at home to Leyton Orient in the 3rd Round.
