No points at the Etihad, but we possibly deserved one

Apart from a couple of seasons ago when we did the double over a Man City team that won the PL and the Champions League, we tend to lose but not by very much. I was expecting us to come away pointless and if I had the choice of (a) a point here and dropping two points at home against a lesser team or (b) losing to Man City but winning that home game, then I would go for the latter i.e. (a) =2 points and (b) = 3 points. Straight from kick-off, Ajer’s deep cross was headed back across goal by Lewis-Potter, Stones failed to clear from underneath the crossbar and Wissa was perfectly placed to loop a header into the net. Just 22 seconds were on the clock, making it the fastest goal scored in the PL this season. Then Mbeumo, Wissa and Collins had chances to extend our lead. City then started to come into the game and it was inevitable that it was Haarland who equalised in the 19th minute. Pinnock then had a header tipped over the bar. Haarland got their second (and winning) goal in the 32nd minute after Pinnock failed to clear the ball. It is unfortunate that before half time Wissa limped off after not a great tackle on him. The extent of his injury is not known. Just before the break Lewis-Potter had another chance that was saved. I quote Thomas Frank "the first 25 minutes we were close to world class… not many teams come here and have more possession, shots on target". In the second half it was mainly City trying to get a third goal and Flekken had to make some very good saves to deny them. Then Haarland almost got his hat-trick but he hit the post. We had one chance to equalise in stoppage time when Yarmoliuk dragged the ball past the post.
