We would have beaten them with 11-men

We go down 1-2 at home to Liverpool and end the game with only 9-men. Apart from one chance that Barcola was 1-on-1 with Kelleher and dinked it wide of the post, Liverpool offered very little in the first half. We took the lead in the 44th minute. A great cross from Thaigo was powered home with a brilliant header from KLP. Things looked comfortable until the eighth minute of added-on time when lining up for a Liverpool corner Yarmo slightly headbutted Jacquet in the face, who promptly fell to the ground as if hit by a baseball bat. The incident was picked up by VAR and Yarmo correctly was given a red card. Fortunately, although it would have made no difference to the final result, the ball had not been in play at the time so a penalty could not be given.

The second half was very different to the first, with Liverpool pressing to get an equaliser against our 10-men. It eventually came, and after Kelleher had made some good saves and they hit the bar, they got the winner. To rub salt into the wound, right at the end Janelt was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Our unbeaten record has gone and if Yarmo had not been sent off I think we might have got all three points. Now we are without our two holding midfielders, probably Janelt for one game and Yarmo for three.
