A banana skin avoided (but only just) as we go through to the 5th Round of the FA Cup
Away to 6th tier Macclesfield Town (who had beaten cup holders Crystal Palace in the previous round and was probably one of the biggest giant killing upsets in FA Cup history), we were on a hiding to nothing. KA made 7 changes from the team who drew with Arsenal last Thursday night and handed a debut to recent signing Furo. On their artificial pitch, we struggled in the first half but played a bit better in the second half. We scraped through by the only goal of the match. I

We were not outgunned by the Gunners
After two great away wins at Villa and Newcastle, I was quite relaxed about Arsenal getting all three points at the Gtech. Yet, we came away with point after a 1-1 draw. Arsenal were desperate to win as the previous night Man City had closed the gap to three points at the top of the PL. At the 10-minute mark Arsenal almost scored from a corner. Rice delivered to the far post, where Gabriel headed towards goal from close range, but van den Berg headed the ball off the line and

We scare away the Magpies
Winning at Villa Park last Sunday was unexpected, but beating Newcastle at St. James’ Park was a complete surprise. With Schade suspended, KA brought back KLP and again left Collins and Damsgaard on the bench. Ex-Bee Wissa was making his first appearance against us and was loudly booed (for good reason) by the away fans each time he touched the ball. After only two minutes, Botman’s poor defensive header was seized upon by KLP. His shirt was blatantly tugged by Trippier, and

Back to winning ways as 10-man Bees beat the Villa
A great defensive display in the second half sees 10-man Bees hold on to their first-half lead to get the 3 points. When the 4th Official annnounced 10 minutes of added-on time, I'm not sure how my blood pressure didn't go through the roof. As I am still celebrating the win I would like to acknowldege the Brentford FC website as I have 'borrowwd' their report (with the occasional comment in italic ). Kevin Schade received a straight red card moments before Ouattara netted the

A bad day at the office, losing to Forest at home
Surely this was a guaranteed 3 points with Forest only having played on Thursday in Europe, losing to Braga 1-0 in Portugal (and they missed a pen), our great home form, and us needing to avenge our opening day defeat at their place. However, we were well below par and Forest ran out easy winners 0-2 with breakaway counter attack goals, one in each half. Also, both Damsgaard and Ajer had to be taken off with knee and ankle injuries, respectively. Thiago nearly scored after o

Our unbeaten run comes to an end
Chelsea won Liam Rosenior's first Premier League match as head coach as they secured a battling home victory against the mighty Bees who were undefeated in their previous six matches. Joao Pedro's powerful first-half strike and Cole Palmer's penalty after the break gave Chelsea a 2-0 win. But they did not have it all their own way, with the Bees having more possession, shots, and shots on target than their hosts. We started brightly and Kevin Schade had our first two attempts

Through to the 4th Round of the FA Cup
On paper, a 3rd Round FA cup tie away to Sheffield Wednesday should be an odds-on victory. Wednesday are 29 points adrift at the bottom of the Championship having lost 4 and drawn 2 of their last six games, compared with the Bees who have won 4 and drawn 2. Yet, what did Wednesday have to lose and could this be a big banana skin for the Bees? Even with 8 changes and Thiago and Schade rested we did a highly professional job winning 0-2 and it should have been more. In the firs

Up to 5th in the PL!
Sunderland are fighters and despite their recent poor record, they have been playing quite well. So, I wasn't totally optimistic of a win (when am I totally optimistic that the Bees will win?). We needed to avenge our last minute defeat at the Stadium of Light earlier in the season. We did this quite convincingly, 3-0 at the Gtech (but we could have scored 5). Things might have been different had they not missed a pen early in the second half (more about that later). We start

We chew up the Toffees
A game I thought we would lose (and it wouldn't have mattered because teams below us lost the previous day), but we played very well for a great 2-4 away victory. Igor Thiago's hat-trick helped us to only our third away win of the season, and we move into 7th place in the PL. The Brazilian forward produced a brilliant display, which started with him heading Tarkowski's early goal-bound header off the line at one end, then putting the Bees in front from Janelt's superb cross o

Stalemate at the Gtech
TF's first visit back to the Gtech sees us play out an unexciting 0-0 draw, with us probably just the better team. The 'experts' on the Griffin Park Grapevine had correctly predicted a draw and I think I am happy with a point. Once I knew Romero and van der Ven were playing , I didn't expect we would get much from the game. We did get the ball in the net in the first half. From a Janelt corner (that had resulted from a great long throw by Kayode), a Collins' header was pushed
